Proverbs 3:5 (KJV)

Proverbs 3:5-6 is a couplet—verses that work together. Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, wrote this. And Solomon knew from experience what happens when you lean on your own understanding: you accumulate 700 wives, worship their false gods, and die in spiritual confusion. His wisdom is hard-won: I tried trusting my own understanding. It destroyed me. Trust God instead.

This is the Bible's most quoted verse on anxiety, and it's more than a platitude. 'Lean not unto thine own understanding' doesn't mean 'don't think.' It means 'don't trust your limited perspective as if it's the whole picture.' Your understanding is real but incomplete. You see Tuesday. God sees Tuesday in the context of eternity. Trust Him with all your heart—not half your heart while you hedge your bets with your own schemes.
