Privacy Policy
How we collect, use, and protect your information
At BibleHint, we believe in transparency. This privacy policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it. We've written this in plain English—no dense legalese—because we want you to actually read it.
Who We Are
BibleHint.com is operated by our team, based in San Francisco, California. We're a small team building a simple product: daily Bible verses delivered to your phone. If you have questions about this policy or your data, email us at sunday@biblehint.com.
What We Collect
We collect the minimum information necessary to run the service:
Phone Number (Required)
We use your phone number to send requested sample texts, daily Bible verses, and related service messages. We verify your number when you subscribe to make sure it is real and that you own it.
Email Address (Optional)
If you provide an email, we'll use it to send receipts, subscription updates, and account-related messages. We will NOT send you marketing emails unless you explicitly opt in. You can use BibleHint without ever giving us your email—we only need your phone number.
Payment Information
We use Stripe to process payments. Stripe handles your credit card information—we never see or store your card number, CVV, or expiration date. All we store is a Stripe customer ID and subscription ID so we can manage your subscription. Stripe has its own privacy policy at stripe.com/privacy.
Usage Data
Like most websites, we collect basic analytics: which pages you visit, how long you stay, what device you're using. This helps us understand which Bible topics resonate most and how to improve the site. We use privacy-friendly analytics (PostHog or Plausible) that don't track you across the internet.
SMS Delivery Data
We log which verses were sent to your number and whether the message was successfully delivered. This helps us ensure quality service and track your reading plan progress. These logs are automatically deleted after 90 days.
How We Use Your Information
Here's exactly what we do with your data:
- Phone number: To deliver requested samples, daily Bible verse SMS messages, related service messages, and account verification
- Email: To send receipts, subscription confirmations, and account updates (not marketing)
- Payment data: Processed entirely by Stripe. We only store your Stripe customer ID, never card details
- Usage data: To improve the website and understand which content is most helpful
- SMS data: To ensure delivery quality and track your reading plan progress
Who We Share Data With
We share your data with the following services—all of which have their own privacy policies:
Stripe (stripe.com)
Payment processing. They handle all credit card information securely.
Twilio (twilio.com)
SMS delivery. They process your phone number to send text messages.
AWS (amazon.com)
Cloud infrastructure. Your data is stored on AWS DynamoDB servers in the United States.
Cloudflare (cloudflare.com)
Website hosting, CDN, and infrastructure.
Anthropic (anthropic.com)
AI-generated verse reflections. All reflections are pre-generated—no user data is sent to Anthropic.
We do NOT sell your data to anyone. Ever. We're a subscription business—our revenue comes from subscribers, not from selling your information.
SMS-Specific Disclosures
When you subscribe to BibleHint, here's what you're agreeing to regarding text messages:
- You consent to receiving recurring automated text messages at the phone number you provided

- Message and data rates may apply depending on your mobile carrier
- You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message

Cookies and Tracking
We use minimal cookies. Here's what's on your device:
- Essential cookies: For site functionality (like keeping you logged in)
- Analytics cookies: Privacy-friendly analytics to understand how people use the site (PostHog or Plausible—no cross-site tracking)
- No advertising cookies: We don't show ads, so we don't use advertising tracking
Data Retention
How long we keep your information:
- Account data: Retained while your subscription is active. Deleted within 90 days of account deletion.
- SMS logs: Kept for 90 days to monitor delivery quality, then automatically deleted
- Payment data: Retained by Stripe according to their data retention policy (we only store customer IDs)
Your Rights
You have control over your data. Here's what you can do:
- Access: Request a copy of all data we have about you
- Deletion: Request deletion of your account and all associated data
- Opt-out: Reply STOP to any SMS to immediately unsubscribe from messages
- Correct: Update your phone number or email through your account settings

Children's Privacy
BibleHint is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that we've inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it immediately.

Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we'll post the changes on this page and update the "Effective Date" at the top. For significant changes, we'll notify active subscribers via SMS or email. Continued use of BibleHint after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
