PrayerFor Your Heart

Prayer for Patience

“Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.”

Psalm 37:7 (KJV)

We live in a world built for speed—instant messages, same-day delivery, immediate answers. Yet spiritual growth rarely works on our timeline. If you find yourself frustrated by delayed answers to prayer, struggling through circumstances that won't change quickly, or frustrated with your own slow progress, this prayer is for you. Patience is not passive waiting; it's trusting faith in action.

A daily KJV verse, delivered as a text message every morning. No app to open.

The Prayer

O God of endless mercy, I come before Thee with a restless heart, asking for the gift of patience. My spirit grows weary when answers delay and circumstances refuse to bend to my timeline. I confess that I have rushed ahead of Thy wisdom, doubted Thy faithfulness in the waiting seasons, and spoken words born of haste rather than faith. Teach me to wait as Thy saints have waited—not with gritting teeth, but with quiet trust in Thy sovereign hand. Grant me the grace to see delay as opportunity, not denial. Help me understand that patience is not passive resignation, but active trust that Thou art working all things together for my good, even when I cannot perceive it. Strengthen my weary places. Calm my anxious thoughts. Replace my urgency with the settled peace of knowing Thou art never late and never careless with those Thou lovest. Give me patience with others as Thou hast been patient with me. Help me to endure hardship without complaint, to wait without fear, and to believe without wavering. Let patience mature my faith and deepen my dependence upon Thee. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

Amen.
How to Use This Prayer

Pray this when you're facing a delayed answer, a slow circumstance, or your own impatience. Use it especially in moments when you're tempted to rush ahead or doubt God's timing. Return to it regularly during seasons of waiting—let it reset your heart toward trust.

Reflection

Patience isn't about having more willpower or a calmer temperament—it's about believing something true that your circumstances are trying to make you doubt: that God is good, that He's working, and that His timing is perfect. When you're waiting, you're not standing idle; you're exercising the deepest form of trust. The psalmist doesn't command you to be patient through sheer effort. He calls you to *rest* and *wait*—to cease striving and recognize that God's faithfulness doesn't depend on your anxiety. Every moment you choose trust over panic, you're not just enduring—you're growing. That's why patience produces maturity. It's the gymnasium of faith.
