Prayer for Marriage

Almighty God, I come before Thee with a grateful heart for the covenant of marriage Thou hast blessed me with. I pray that Thou wouldst strengthen the bond between my spouse and me with love that reflects Thy love for the church—sacrificial, patient, and enduring. Grant us grace to speak words of encouragement rather than criticism, to listen with open hearts, and to serve one another in humility. When misunderstandings arise, give us wisdom to seek understanding before judgment. Soften our hearts toward each other, and help us to lay down our pride at the foot of the cross. Protect our marriage from the schemes of the enemy that seek to divide. Help us to pray together, to grow together in faith, and to raise our eyes toward Thee as the foundation of our union. Lord, teach us to love not based on feeling alone, but on the commitment we have made before Thee. Guard our eyes, our hearts, and our affections for one another. And when seasons of difficulty come—and they will—remind us of the vows we spoke and the God we serve. Help us to be the spouse our partner needs, reflecting Christ's character in all we do. I pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.
