Prayer for Hard Times

Father, I come before Thee in this dark hour, my heart heavy with pain I can barely name. The weight of these circumstances presses upon me, and I confess I do not understand why this suffering has come. Yet even in this darkness, I cling to what I know of Thy character—that Thou art good, that Thy mercies endure forever, and that Thou hast not abandoned me. Lord, I ask not for the removal of this trial, though my flesh cries out for relief. Instead, I ask for grace sufficient for this day. Strengthen my weary bones and my faltering spirit. When my faith grows thin as paper, breathe upon it and fan it into flame again. Help me to see Thy hand even here, working all things together for good, though I cannot yet perceive it. Teach me to cast my cares upon Thee, for Thou carest for me. Still my anxious thoughts. Replace my fear with Thy perfect love. And grant me the eyes to see how Thou art refining my faith through this furnace, making it precious and enduring. I trust Thee, O God, though my trust trembles. Be Thou my refuge and my strength. In Thy presence is fullness of joy. Lead me through this valley into light again. Amen.
