Prayer for a Job Interview

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

Ephesians 6:13-16 (KJV)

Job interviews can stir up a storm of anxiety and self-doubt. You may find yourself lying awake the night before, replaying potential answers or worrying whether you're qualified enough. This prayer is for that moment—when you need to quiet the noise of fear and reconnect with the truth that your life is in God's hands, not in the hands of an interviewer. Pray this before you walk in, trusting that God sees not just your resume, but your whole heart.

A daily KJV verse, delivered as a text message every morning. No app to open.

The Prayer

Almighty God, I come before Thee this day with a humble heart, casting my anxiety upon Thee, for Thou carest for me. I confess that I am nervous about this interview, yet I choose to trust in Thy providence rather than my own merit. Grant me clarity of mind and calmness of spirit as I speak. Give me words that are honest and true, reflecting the character Thou hast worked into my life. Guard my tongue from pride and from false humility; help me speak with genuine confidence rooted not in myself, but in Thy strength and purpose. Direct the minds and hearts of those who will interview me. If this position is Thy will for my life, open the door. If it is not, close it gently and redirect my steps toward what Thou knowest is best. Help me remember that my worth is not determined by their verdict, but by the fact that I am created and loved by Thee. Give me the courage to be authentically myself, knowing that authenticity is far more powerful than performance. As I face this moment, help me to glorify Thee in my words and demeanor. Whether I am offered this role or not, may I trust that Thou art working all things together for my good. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Amen.
How to Use This Prayer

Pray this prayer the morning of your interview, or even 15 minutes before you walk in—somewhere quiet where you can collect your thoughts and center yourself in God's presence. Return to it throughout the day if anxiety creeps back in, especially right before you enter the building.

Reflection

Before an interview, we often suit ourselves in armor—polished shoes, pressed clothes, memorized answers. But Ephesians reminds us that our true protection comes from something deeper: truth, righteousness, and faith. These aren't things you put on at the last minute. They're the character God has been building in you all along. When you walk into that room, you're not relying on your performance; you're standing in the integrity and honesty God has cultivated in your life. This shifts everything. You're no longer trying to impress; you're being invited to simply be yourself—your authentic, God-rooted self. That quiets the anxiety. You can speak truthfully about your skills and experience because you're not depending on manipulation or exaggeration. You can listen well because you're not consumed by fear. And whatever happens, you can walk out with your head held high, knowing you represented Christ with integrity.
