Prayer Before Sleep

Pray this prayer as you're preparing for bed, either aloud or quietly in your heart. Take a few deep breaths and let each sentence sink in, allowing the truth of God's protection to ease you toward sleep. If anxious thoughts return during the night, simply whisper the opening lines again and remind yourself that the Lord is keeping watch.

Notice the confidence in the psalmist's words—not because circumstances are perfect, but because trust in God makes rest possible. Sleep is an act of surrender. When you lay your head down, you're essentially saying, 'I cannot control what happens next; I release this to You.' That's not weakness; that's wisdom. God's promise isn't that nothing bad will ever happen, but that He watches over you while you sleep. He neither slumbers nor sleeps (Psalm 121:4). When you pray before rest, you're aligning your heart with this reality: you don't have to stay awake managing the universe. That's His job. Your job is to trust and to sleep.
