Who Is God For Jewish?
God is the Creator and ultimate source of life for followers of the Jewish faith. Referred to in Hebrew as HaShem – the name – or Elohim, God is believed to be the singular, all-powerful, all-knowing, and eternal force in the universe.
Traditional Jewish theology holds that God is one and indivisible, transcending the physical universe, and is simultaneously the creator, sustainer, and judge of all existence.
God is unbound by space and time, and is not limited by either. He is seen as the source of all life, and the ultimate author of the moral law that governs the universe, dictating what is right and wrong and judging humans for their behavior.
God is a loving and merciful being, extending forgiveness and compassion to humans who repent and obey his commands. Despite this, God is also a force of justice and can become angry and punish those who disobey or ignore him.
In Judaism, God is seen as a personal being, not an abstract or impersonal force. He is known to interact and communicate with humans, and is seen as having certain emotions and feelings, such as love, compassion, anger, and mercy.
God is also believed to be multi-faceted and can be approached and understood in different ways. In the Torah, God is depicted as the powerful creator of the world, yet he is also seen as a more intimate, caring figure who takes a personal interest in the lives of his people.
Throughout Jewish history, God has been seen as the source of all wisdom and knowledge, and is believed to have revealed his law and will to the Jewish people through prophets and other divinely inspired teachers.
God has also been depicted in Jewish literature, art, and music, in ways that reflect the relationship and emotions between God and his people, as well as the multifaceted understanding of God expressed by different eras and traditions.
For Jews, God is the ultimate source of life and being. He is both the creator and sustainer of the universe, and the source of morality and justice. God is ultimately seen as loving and merciful, and is believed to provide guidance and direction when needed.
