What Did God Promise After Adam And Eve Sinned?
It is written in the Bible that God promised a Savior of mankind after Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden. God established a covenant with mankind through a series of prophesies, beginning with His promise to Eve that her offspring would be the one that would bring about God’s salvation. From the seed of Eve’s son, God promised a deliverer for the human race through His appointed lineage.
This promise of a deliverer is found in the Old Testament. In Genesis 3:15, God said, “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” This verse is known as the Protevangelium and speaks of a coming victory of the seed of the woman over the serpent-Satan. This battle would ultimately result in the victory of Jesus over death and sin, redeeming mankind from their sinful natures that entered the world because of Adam and Eve’s disobedience.
In the book of Isaiah, God declares that a virgin will bear a son and His name will be Emmanuel. God promises to be with us (Isaiah 7:14). Again in Isaiah 9:6, God proclaims, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” These verses describe the coming Messiah and confirm God’s promise that a deliverer will come.
God also promised through the prophet Jeremiah that the Lord will make a new covenant with His people (Jeremiah 31:31). This was fulfilled in the New Testament when Jesus of Nazareth fulfilled the law of Moses and provided the way of salvation and reconciliation with God through His own sacrificial death on the cross.
Throughout the Bible, God promised that He will provide a way of salvation and a means of redemption for mankind. The Old Testament is filled with prophecies in which God promised a deliverer and in the New Testament, Jesus fulfills these promises. For those of us who choose to follow Jesus and His teachings, we are promised the true and abundant life, free from the sin and turmoil of this world.
Palms 37:4 declares, “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” We can stand in confidence that God’s promises are always true and that He will give us a way to find joy in Him and discover our purpose in life.
