The devil himself is described as a liar in 1 John 4:6.

The most dangerous lie is to become like the Devil because the Devil is the father of lies.

He is a liar, murderer, the father of sin, the father of darkness, and the father of death. He was Lucifer before the fall, and he’ll be Satan after the resurrection.

If we’re not careful, we’ll become like him through our own pride and self-indulgence. We might even end up in hell.

The Good News

God has given us the entire Bible for free — all of it. It’s not just a select few verses, but every last word of the Bible. It’s not our fault that we were trained to believe what the devil told us about the Bible because we need to read it to find out more about God.

God’s standard is “the word of truth” (John 12:48). Let’s read the whole Bible for ourselves before we pass judgment on it. Let’s let the whole Bible teach us about the word of God.

God’s revelation wasn’t just for one or two people. It was written to be understood generally, as it is written in four different languages including Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, and Latin. Even if we can’t understand it, it can still teach us about God.

We can’t just read the parts that we like, or skip the parts that we don’t like. We have to read the entire Bible and compare different writings from different time periods. By comparing one with another, we get a true view of God.

When we read the Bible, we can’t read it just like we read a novel. We have to pay attention to how God’s revelation was written so we can understand it. This is the covenantal tradition.

From the time of the Old Testament prophets, God was revealing Himself to his people over the centuries in the form of a covenant.

We read the Old Testament prophets like the ancient Israelites do, which means that we must read the Bible with the same covenantal eye, as if we were ancient Israelites in the Bible.

The Old Testament was originally written over the centuries and translated into the various languages. It was written by Jewish prophets, such as Isaiah and Jeremiah, as well as Christian apostles, such as Paul and Peter.

They all spoke the same spiritual language because they were all prophets.
