Is Serena Williams A Jehovah’s Witness?
Serena Williams is one of the greatest athletes of all time, credited with being a driving force in the growth of women’s professional sports. But the American professional tennis champion has also earned a reputation for her social values and religious convictions.
Speculation has long swirled over the religious upbringing of Serena Williams, and many have wondered whether she is a Jehovah’s Witness. The answer, however, is much more complex than expected.
Serena has never outrightly stated whether she is a Jehovah’s Witness or not. Growing up, she was raised in a Christian household and attended a Catholic church, though her parents did not actively participate in any single religious denomination.
Serena has shared that she believes in God and has a deep faith in him – which is one of the core tenets of Jehovah’s Witness beliefs – but that’s as far as her religious convictions go. She respects other religions and has expressed admiration for Pope Francis’ teachings.
In interviews, Serena has referenced her faith in God and Almighty, two of the primary beliefs held by Jehovah’s Witnesses. She has stated that she considers her faith to be a personal matter, instead of a public one, and so she chooses to remain mum on the matter.
If there is any indication that Serena is a Jehovah’s Witness, it is her adherence to the religion’s core values. One of the strongest beliefs of the religion is no blood transfusions and just recently she made headlines for refusing a blood transfusion for her daughter during a difficult childbirth.
In the same vein, the tennis superstar has also said that she opts for natural healing methods, including herbs and oils, for her health and wellness. This is arguably in line with the teachings of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, who believe that modern medicine should only be resorted to in emergencies, and after prayer and supplication.
At the end of the day, however, we may never know whether Serena Williams is a Jehovah’s Witness or not. Despite the evidence that she practices at least some of the religion’s core beliefs, she has remained mum on the matter and chosen to only focus on her faith in God.
