Is Return With Honor A Mormon?
Return with Honor is not directly a Mormon organization, however, there are many Latter-Day Saints (LDS) that support its mission. Return with Honor (RWH) is an ecumenical organization dedicated to restoring dignity to the military service of conscientious objectors who served in the U.S. armed forces during the Vietnam War. It recognizes their service, honors their families and the communities that support them, and celebrates their commitment to peace and love.
These conscientious objectors chose nonviolence as their way of life. RWH works to promote understanding of the nonviolence that these men and women practiced, and to ensure their stories are not forgotten. It also works to honor veterans of all faiths, especially those who were conscientiously objecting to the Vietnam War.
Though the RWH mission isn’t specifically LDS, its cause resonates strongly with readers of the Bible. RWH offers a way for the Bible to be shared, studied, and respected through its special recognition of those who have practiced nonviolence for years. Bible verses such as Proverbs 16:7 (NIV), which say, “When a man’s ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him” and Matthew 5:5 (NIV), which say, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God,” can be shared along with RWH’s cause.
RWH seeks to strengthen faith and bring peace to communities. By celebrating those who chose nonviolence and supported their fellow veterans, RWH helps create a society of peace and understanding. This is a cause that all followers of God should strive to support.
