Is Noah’s Ark In Turkey?
The story of Noah’s Ark and the Great Flood is one of the most well-known parts of the Bible and the topic of much discussion and debate. Many people believe the Ark was located in some of the countries surrounding Israel; among them, Turkey. To support this belief and reach a definitive conclusion, let us explore the details of what the Bible tells us and consider the possibilities.
The Bible tells us Noah was instructed by God to build the Ark and that it was built on Mount Ararat which resides in what is now Turkey. In Genesis 8:4 we read “In the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.” However, it’s important to note that the term “Ararat” at the time the Bible was written, referred to a region that included parts of Turkey, Armenia and Iran, and not just the single mountain. But in the broader sense, we can infer that this region was the general area of the ark’s landing.
Additionally, when the story of the ark was written, the mountain later known as Ararat was known as the “mountains of Ararat.” Given this, we can infer that the general location referred to by Ararat is likely the same region we call Ararat today, located in Turkey.
What’s more, Genesis 8:4 states that the ark came to rest somewhere after the waters had receded. And in Genesis 8:5, the Bible states “The waters receded steadily from the earth.” So it seems quite possible the ark could have come to rest in Turkey.
These details from the Bible can help us reach the conclusion that Noah’s Ark may very well have come to rest in Turkey, the region now known as Ararat.
