Is J. Willard Marriott A Mormon?
J. Willard Marriott was a successful businessman, entrepreneur and philanthropist, who founded the Marriott Corporation—now known as Marriott International—in 1927. He was known for his integrity and corporate social responsibility, and was widely respected for his generous philanthropy. He also had strong ties to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—better known as the Mormon Church—whose members are often referred to as Mormons.
Marriott was born in Utah and was raised in a Mormon home, where he was part of a strong LDS community. He was baptized into the LDS Church at the age of 12 and was an active member throughout the rest of his life, attending the LDS temple regularly. He became the president of his local ward— a collection of churches within a geographical area—and was also a stake president—which is an administrative position within the LDS Church. He had a deep religious conviction and remained dedicated to the LDS Church throughout his life.
Marriott found success in business partly due to the Mormon principles he exercised, particularly hard work and thriftiness. His business model was founded on the Mormon belief of self-reliance and the encouragement to pursue excellence. He also felt strongly about giving back to his community, and he was deeply involved in a number of philanthropic efforts, including The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Humanitarian Aid and The J. Willard Marriott Foundation.
J. Willard Marriott was a faithful member of the LDS Church throughout his life and was an exemplary example of the values of the Church. He was a great testament to the Church’s principles and was highly respected in his community and business circles. He maintained a strong commitment to his faith and was an inspiration to those around him.
