Is Gladys Knight A Mormon?
Gladys Knight, also known as the Empress of Soul, is a very famous Grammy Award-winning American singer-songwriter, actress, and entrepreneur. Knight has achieved a staggering amount of success throughout her career, paving the way for many others in the music industry.
However, one question that has been asked by many is whether or not Gladys Knight is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints — otherwise known as the LDS Church — or better known as the Mormon Church.
The answer to this question is no, Gladys Knight is not a member of the LDS Church or a Mormon. There does not seem to be any concrete evidence from her personal beliefs or activities that strengthens the argument that she is affiliated with the Mormon faith.
Speaking directly to the issue, Gladys Knight appeared on the show Oprah’s Next Chapter in 2013 in which she was asked the direct question of whether or not she was a Mormon. To which Knight replied, “No, I am not.” This is the only public statement that has been made on the subject of whether or not Gladys Knight is a Mormon.
Gladys Knight, who is a devout Christian, talks openly about her faith throughout her life, but has never lent to the belief that she is affiliated with the Mormon Church.
In an interview with Larry King in 2005, Gladys said, “I believe that God, in His own due time, will always take care of me. And that He will always give us the wisdom and knowledge to move forward, I believe that He will do the same for the rest of His people.”
Additionally, there is evidence that points to the fact that Gladys Knight is not a member of the LDS Church. She may have some friends that are Mormons, but there is little evidence to suggest that she has taken part in any LDS-related activities or is a practicing member of the religion.
For example, Gladys Knight has never performed at or attended any of the traditional LDS Church events like General Conference or Youth Conferences. Also, her albums do not include any religious songs that would be recognized by Mormons as Christian music.
Finally, Gladys Knight has never made any public statements of support or involvement with the Mormon Church. Her Twitter and Instagram pages have featured multiple Christian-related posts and quotes, but no mention of Mormonism.
Despite the fact that Gladys Knight is not a Mormon, she continues to speak out on her faith on a regular basis. In a 2020 Instagram post, she said; “God has been so good to me. He has blessed me with talent and I am thankful. I want to use it for His good.”
At the end of the day, it does not appear to be the case that Gladys Knight is a member of the LDS Church, or a Mormon. Despite her strong Christian beliefs and the fact that she has friends of the Mormon faith, there is little evidence to suggest that she has any real affiliation with the church.
