Is Fetterman Jewish?
At first glance, it may appear that David Fetterman has no religious roots. But when one delves deeper into the life of the Pennsylvania native and Pennsylvania State Senator, it becomes clear that Fetterman’s Jewish heritage is integral to his personal and professional life.
Fetterman’s family can trace its roots back to Germany and Eastern Europe, but his father Irwin Fetterman grew up attending Shaler Jewish Center in Pittsburgh. From a young age, David was exposed to a strong Jewish upbringing, attending activities at the center, including weekly Hebrew lessons. Irwin and his wife Joyce instilled Jewish values in their sons, to ensure that the faith and traditions of their ancestors would live on.
Fetterman has long embraced his Jewish identity both personally and professionally. He has spoken openly about his faith in the past, saying, “I am proud to be a Jew and proud of how my parents brought me up in the faith.” He has even taken a public stand on issues related to Jewish values, as an outspoken opponent of the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions movement and boycotts of Israel.
The Senator also has a long history of involvement in the political arena and state government, including his current role as the Minority Chair of the Pennsylvania Senate. He has served on committees that focus on issues important to the Jewish community, such as health care, education and religious freedom. These commitments clearly demonstrate Fetterman’s desire to put his Jewish values into action.
In addition to his public commitments, Fetterman has kept his personal faith alive by attending services at Congregation Or Chadash and participating in Jewish life events like bar mitzvahs and Passover Seders. He also founded a synagogue scholarship program to help families who cannot afford the cost of orthodox education.
It is clear that Fetterman’s faith and heritage have played a major role in shaping who he is today. From his involvement in the Jewish community to his political and business activities, David Fetterman is proudly and actively embracing his Jewish identity.
