Is Dom DeLuise Catholic?

Dom DeLuise was an American actor, comedian, director, and voice artist whose zest for life was unparalleled. Though he may have left us in 2009, the legacy of his uproarious performances continues to thrive. Perhaps less known than his professional accomplishments, however, is Dom DeLuise’s commitment to his Catholic faith.

Raised in a devoutly Catholic household, DeLuise was inspired by a strong spiritual foundation as he grew older. As a young man, DeLuise found solace in the Church’s welcoming embrace. He would faithfully take refuge in its pews whenever he needed spiritual counsel and guidance.

Dom DeLuise proudly described himself as a devoted Catholic and was frequently seen attending the Church’s weekly services. Indeed, it wasn’t at all uncommon to spot him genuflecting before the statues or lighting a candle or two in observance of a holy day.

The actor’s Catholic faith extended far beyond a Sunday morning pew. Though never ordained, he was often called upon to officiate marriage ceremonies and baptisms. Throughout his career, Dom DeLuise was well-known as a kind and generous person – a trait which he attributed to his religious upbringing.

In 2008, shortly before his death, Dom DeLuise shared his faith with the world on the late-night talk show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. During his interview, DeLuise told the audience that he was Catholic and that he was proud of his faith. He said, “You’re more connected to God when you’re a Catholic. I’m proud that I am one, and I’m proud to stand up for it.”

Though Dom DeLuise has passed, his incredible talent and unwavering commitment to his Catholic faith will always be remembered. His deep devotion to his faith exemplified the true spirit of the Catholic Church, a spirit of compassion and kindness. Dom DeLuise will forever be remembered as a beacon of light for the faith he held so dearly for the entirety of his life.
