Is Darwin An Atheist?
Darwin’s views on religion, and atheism specifically, have been the subject of scrutiny throughout history. While it is impossible to definitively answer the question of whether or not Darwin was an atheist, it is possible to examine the evidence available and make an educated guess.

For example, in his autobiography, he states that during his twenties, he was “nearly convinced” that there was no Creator and that humankind had come about through the development of animals through natural selection.
The Origin of Species
When Darwin published the On the Origin of Species in 1859, a storm of debate ensued, particularly concerning the implications of the book’s content regarding the existence of a Creator. While it is true that Darwin never explicitly stated in the book that he believed in atheism, the implications of his theories were difficult to deny. Darwin’s ideas were often at odds with the traditional religious views of his time, and the book caused a great discomfort among the religiously inclined.
Conclusion
In conclusion, while it is impossible to definitively say whether or not Darwin was an atheist with 100% certainty, the evidence available seems to strongly suggest that he did not believe in any deities or divine forces, or at least had grave doubts about their existence. It is also true that Darwin followed his own scientific pursuits instead of taking part in religious activities, and that the implications of his theories in On the Origin of Species did not sit well with the religiously inclined.
