Is Adam Driver Jewish?
Adam Driver is a Jewish actor, best known for his roles in Star Wars, Girls, and Marriage Story. Growing up, Driver was raised in a conservative Jewish home.
Driver was born in 1983 in San Diego, California. His father, Joe, was born in Indiana and had been a Baptist pastor before joining the Marines and eventually moving to San Diego. His mother, Nancy, was born in Lebanon, Missouri and a Christian, though had been raised in the Jewish faith.
Driver’s parents instilled in him a strong sense of faith and pride in his Jewish heritage. His father often took Adam and his sister to synagogue and they celebrated Jewish holidays such as Passover and Hanukkah.
Adam’s faith was tested when he enlisted in the Marines right after graduating high school. During basic training, his fellow Marines asked him about his faith and he was able to stay true to his Jewish roots.
Driver often speaks about his Jewish faith and its importance in his life. In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Driver said he was attracted to the religion because “it’s full of the exciting ideas of questioning and not having to believe in anything without question”.
Driver also identifies with the Jewish idea of Tikkun Olam, which means “repairing the world”. In another interview, Driver said he is drawn to the idea that “we all have a responsibility to leave the world a better place than when we got here”. Driver often speaks about his involvement in charities and foundations and how he hopes to use his stature to help people in need.
In an interview with GQ magazine, Driver spoke about how he is able to bring his faith into his acting, “it’s this feeling of never being sure and searching, which is a core part of being Jewish and also a core part of making art.”
Adam Driver is a proud Jewish actor who has not let his faith get in the way of his successful career. He is an example of how it is possible to stay true to oneself while also achieving success in one’s endeavors.
