Is Aaron Ruell A Mormon?
Aaron Ruell, an actor, director, and photographer, is not a Mormon. While he has a connection to Utah, which is home to a large population of Mormons, that doesn’t mean he is of the same faith.
Ruell was born in Santa Barbara, California. However, he later attended Brigham Young University in Utah. It was at BYU where he earned a degree in film and media arts. Although it is a Mormon-affiliated university, being connected to the university doesn’t necessarily mean one is a practicing Mormon.
In addition, some of Ruell’s work has attracted attention from Mormon circles, including his feature debut Kid Fixers. This movie follows three Mormon teenagers from a small Utah town who try to fix their own lives by “fixing” the lives of those around them. While this story includes the characters having a Mormon faith and lifestyle, it does not necessarily reflect Ruell’s personal beliefs.
Ruell has also been featured at the annual Sunstone Symposium, a non-Mormon event held in Salt Lake City with lectures and workshops. Ruell gave a feature presentation called “The Mormon Media Gap” which focused on how LDS film and media can fill in some of the “gaps” within modern Mormon filmmaking. While this presentation was relevant to the LDS culture, it doesn’t necessarily indicate Ruell is a Mormon.
Throughout his career, Ruell has steered clear of conversations pertaining to his faith, leaving his religious affiliation open to interpretation. It is clear, however, that the answer to whether Aaron Ruell is a Mormon is no; he has neither identified nor confirmed himself as a practicing Mormon.
Despite this, Ruell’s work has had a significant impact on the Mormon Church, particularly in the world of filmmaking. He is a gifted storyteller whose works have touched people of all faiths. His talent and influence, though not necessarily stemming from any particular faith, can be felt throughout the Mormon community and beyond.
